Ethos of the School

Family atmosphere

Grafton House Preparatory School is a well established Preparatory school and full day nursery provision which offers a rich and varied environment where your children will flourish. The School, founded in 1991 is now owner managed by Elaine Sagar, who is keen to encourage parents to see the school as an extension of their own family.

The school is registered both with the Department of Children, Schools and Families and with Ofsted. Our pupils are a credit to the school; they are polite and well mannered. Our expectations are high and they aspire to meet the standards set. We feel that pupils must be happy and secure in their learning; Grafton House Preparatory School offers that and much more. Our caring and dedicated staffs know all pupils well and work with them to ensure they progress effectively both academically and socially. In our care pupils develop confidence and respect for both their peers and adults. They enjoy the challenges offered and the opportunities to stretch themselves in a variety of directions.
Grafton House has a long tradition of providing a small and caring environment enabling pupils to achieve their very best. Ofsted found that our curriculum was good with outstanding qualities. The inspectors also praised the school for the outstanding behaviour of our children.

Experienced staff

At Grafton, we have a stable, experienced and well-qualified team of staff. Several members of staff are parents or former parents of the school. Pupils often talk about how kind and approachable their teachers are, and how much they enjoy their lessons.

A school run by parents, for parents

Grafton is owned by its parents, who are members of Ashton Preparatory School Ltd. This means that the school is run like a building society, for the good of its members, rather than like a bank, which exists to make a profit for its shareholders. In practice, the board directors are parents who have invested in the school for the children, and the governors are independent trustees who guide the boards decisions for the members.
